Hst Proposal Id #7309 Solar System

Scientific paper

ROSAT has recently observed equatorial x-ray emissions that imply a SIII longitude/solar local time dependent energetic ion precipitation from the inner radiation belts, which should produce observable enhancements to the H2 dayglow emission at low-latitudes. Therefore, the objective of this proposal is to search for signatures of the H2 dayglow enhancement and temperature variations in the equatorial region possibly due to heavy particle precipitation. This objective requires the STIS spectral imaging facility at low and medium spectral resolution.
