The effect of quasi-periodic surface deformations on VLBI data is investigated using simulation calculations for the trans-Atlantic Effelsberg-Haystack baseline. The air-pressure-induced station displacements are estimated using the Green function and the time dependences of station displacements for four models are studied. The data reveal that the effects of short-period atmospheric loads on VLBI stations can cause errors in the delay observations and the baseline components, and that even though these errors are air-pressure induced they cannot be corrected by the clock parameters of the VLBI.
