It is shown that gyrotropic waves with periods from several seconds to several minutes and with phase velocities of the order of 10 km/s can propagate in the E-layer. These waves are excited by inhomogeneous MHD waves of magnetospheric origin. A pulsed linear current, directed across the magnetic field, excites in the ionosphere a train of gyrotropic waves with finite duration in the Pi2 spectral region. Ionospheric currents connected with the pulsations are transported from high latitudes to middle and low latitudes not by diffusion but by the gyrotropic waves.
