Because of radiation drag (Compton drag), it is difficult to produce highly relativistic jets driven by radiation pressure or magnetic force. Namely, under the present paradigm of uniform steady jets, disk radiation fields as well as magnetic fields easily drive mildly relativistic jets. However, the jet terminal speed can approach the speed of light in such very extreme cases as a point source, since radiation drag suppresses any acceleration. In order to break down this situation, we should abandon some of the basic assumptions, such as the uniformity or steadiness, or both. We propose multi-stage-rocket type jets, which are accelerated by radiation fields of successive radiators, taking account of the spatial non-uniformity. A few stages of emission layers are sufficient for the jets to become highly relativistic.
