The role of atmospheric tidal winds in the generation of counter electrojet (CEJ) events is examined. The tidal diurnal (1,1) mode and the semidiurnal (2,2) and (2,4) modes are considered. The effects of latitudinally varying tidal winds in producing modulations of the equatorial electrojet current are studied. The local wind-generated current intensities due to atmospheric tidal modes (1,1), (2,2), and (2,4) are calculated using the Reddy and Devasis (1978, 1981) equivalent circuit analysis method. The relation between the electron density distribution and the wind-generated currents is analyzed.
