Jarosite normally forms under acidic conditions, and has been used as
evidence for acidic conditions on Mars. However, ephemeral jarosite
occurs in zeolite-dominated altered tephra of a saline-alkaline
paleolake deposit at Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania.
