We review fundamental error terms and limitations to high-contrast imaging with Adaptive Optics wavefront control. The impact of design choices such as WFS bandwidth, WFS type (e.g. Shack-Hartmann vs. direct phase) and wavefront control algorithms will be discussed in detail. We will wrap up with a discussion of the Gemini Planet Imager wavefront controller and its predicted performance.
