The local stability properties of a polytropic, transonic accretion disk around a black hole is investigated for radial linear perturbations. The analytical solutions for the vertical structure of the disk based on a polytropic equation of state are used in deriving the dispersion relation. The radial velocity of the accretion matter is considered in our stability investigation. We found that one viscous mode and two acoustic modes exist in the disk. The viscous mode is always stable. If the growth rate is required to be greater than the escape rate, then the acoustic modes become unstable when the viscosity parameter α is greater than a critical value α_c_ which varies with the values of radial velocity and the polytropic index n.
