We discuss the energetic neutral atom (ENA) observations by HSTOF on SOHO. From mid 2003 the HSTOF field of view is restricted to the flanks of the heliosphere, away from the Voyager trajectories. To interpret the recent observations it is necessary to understand the processes shaping the energetic ion distributions in the inner heliosheath. We present the results obtained from a model based on the Bonn gas-dynamical solution for the heliosphere and compare to Voyager ion measurements and the ENA data from HSTOF, IBEX and INCA.
