Electrified medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) are a common feature of the middle latitude ionosphere. These raised band structures propagate oblique to the magnetic meridian toward the equator. Conventional wisdom held that electrified MSTIDs are damped-out as they reach the arcs of Equatorial Anomaly. However, recent observations suggest that they may propagate all the way to the geomagnetic equator under certain circumstances, especially during deep solar minimum conditions. Furthermore, some MSTIDs have been observed to initiate equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs). We present observations of low-latitude MSTID signatures from ground- and space-based instruments, as well as implications of MSTIDs observed at low latitudes.
