Scientific paper
The study of stellar oscillations -- called asteroseismology -- is undergoing a revolution thanks to spectaular data being obtained by NASA's Kepler Mission. Measuring the frequencies of stellar oscillations allows us to probe their interiors, providing strong constraints on their internal structures. In particular, the detection of gravity modes in hundreds of red giants allows us to distinguish for the first time between hydrogen- and helium-burning stars based on their oscillations.
