We deduce the canonical brackets amongst the creation and annihilation operators of a two (1 + 1)-dimensional (2D) interacting Abelian 1-form gauge theory with Dirac fields (QED) by exploiting the strength of the continuous symmetries of a Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) invariant Lagrangian density that respects, in totality, six continuous symmetries. All these symmetries lead to the derivation of exactly the same canonical brackets amongst the creation and annihilation operators that appear in the normal mode expansions of the basic fields of the theory. We exploit here the basic concepts of the spin-statistics theorem, normal ordering and continuous symmetries (and their generators) to obtain the canonical brackets. For the sake of precise comparison, we also derive the above brackets by applying the usual canonical approach to the Lagrangian density of the theory.
