AstroGrid released its initial working Virtual Observatory (VO) system in May 2005 and will release significant enhancements in July. This is a major milestone in the evolution of the 15 global VOs, making AstroGrid the world's first unified VO framework and system to be deployed. It gives the UK astronomy research community new opportunities, through simple yet powerful interfaces to an increasingly comprehensive set of data and applications. AstroGrid construction, conforming to internationally agreed interoperability standards, ensures that not only is a full range of UK resources accessible, including being ready for the data deluge expected from the UK/ESO VISTA infrared survey telescope, but access is also assured to a wide range of globally held resources located in, for instance, the USA, Europe, Japan, China and elsewhere. AstroGrid began as a consortium of seven UK institutes but is now enlarged to eleven. It has been described in A&G (Walton 2002) and its science focus has been described in Walton et al. 2004.
