IT was suggested by me in a brief paper in 19291 that such polarisation effects as appear in connexion with resonance radiation may be present in some celestial sources of light. Comets and high prominences were mentioned by me as promising objects in this respect. As a matter of fact, observations made recently by B. Lyot2 seem to give a proof of the existence of polarisation in the case of prominences.
