This paper contains some cloud chamber and discharge chamber photographs of phenomena in particle and cosmic ray physics. Among those reproduced are hitherto unpublished photographs of unusual near-horizontal showers, of cores and multicores in extensive air showers, and some illustrating the discharge mechanism of proportional and Geiger counters and an early attempt at pulsing a spark chamber. The accompanying text includes comments, based on the photographs, which are relevant to the performance of several types of particle detector.
