Semianalytical and numerical methods are presently used to characterize the behavior of asteroids at three different resonances with Jupiter, within the framework of the elliptical restricted three-body problem. While in the 5:2 resonance the eccentricities of asteroid orbits change significantly in most of the resonance regions, most eccentricity changes in the 7:3 resonance occur in the central portion of the resonance. Little change is noted for the 2:1 resonance. While these results support an origin of the Kirkwood gaps at the 3:1 and 5:2 resonances in a scenario involving collision with major planets, the origin of the 2:1 and 7:3 resonances lies elsewhere.
