The European Space Agency will continue to operate the Mars Express and Venus Express missions through early-May 2009, the ESA announced on 27 February. Mars Express had been scheduled to end in October 2007 and Venus Express in June. The extension of the two missions will allow both satellites to continue mapping their respective planets as well as allow the scientists involved to conduct comparative planetology. These new studies could provide insight into how the planets formed and how life first emerged within the Solar System. Additional information about Mars Express can be found at http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Mars_Express/ and Venus Express at http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Venus_Express/
