IN previous papers on the origin of the auroral spectrum, and recently
in a letter to NATURE of Dec. 4, 1926, I have directed attention to the
existence of a second green line lying in the region of about
λ5230, which should correspond to the line, or rather group of
lines, N2 of the spectrum from solid nitrogen.
