An FTE model at the dayside magnetopause is discussed which is based on nonstationary reconnection along a single X line over a large longitudinal segment. An individual field line component from the magnetospheric side forms, after reconnection, a loop-like structure in the magnetopause current layer and enters the magnetosheath. Each loop is shown to be twisted in the y direction in the presence of a By component of the magnetic field in the transition region of the magnetopause. The present model field lines are in contrast to the traditional FTE model of localized flux tubes with a helical field inside.
