The production of neutrino-antineutrino pairs in proton-antiproton collisions is studied theoretically using the Drell-Yan model. The signal for this process is missing energy or transverse momentum in the hadronic part of the final state. The total cross section is proportional to the number of neutrino species coupling to weak currents in the usual way. This number is an important quantity both in the study of the problem of fermion generations and in the big bang model of cosmogenesis. The sizes of the experimental signals are estimated using various phenomenological assumptions.
