We have analyzed preliminary temperature observations from the SABER instrument on the TIMED spacecraft in coordination with a global network of ground-based medium frequency and meteor radar systems. Our analysis has focused on the April 2002 period where a significant 6-8 day planetary wave is observed in both the temperature and wind fields between 70 and 100km. The ground-based radar wind observations can be used to accurately determine the wave period and temporal evolution while the satellite temperature measurements are used to infer the spatial wave structure. Initial analysis indicates that this feature is a westward propagating zonal wavenumber one feature. There is also some initial evidence for the presence of both 4 and 10 day waves during this observational period. Possible source mechanisms such as baroclinic instability and nonlinear wave/wave coupling between the 4,6 and 10 day waves are investigated.
