The spin splitting constant for the Chi Sigma-2(+) state of MgH is calculated using second-order perturbation theory and ab initio wave functions. The constant is found to be 0.019/cm, and it is noted that further small splittings will arise from nuclear hyperfine interactions. The nature of the spin splitting constant is considered, and a comparison is made with the Lambda-doubling parameter, which demonstrates a difference explicable in terms of the differences between the potential curves of the interacting states.
