The structure of the outer edge region of the solar nebular disk is
analyzed, and it is shown that no formation zone for comets can exist
there. It is suggested that comets would evolve from surviving
planetesimals in the Jupiter to Neptune region. Such planetesimals would
consist of both rocky and icy materials and may be called cometesimals.
