Improvement of contemporary Hall effect thruster plasma optical diagnostic technique is considered in the paper. This improvement has become possible after critical revision of the collisional radiative model for the HET plasma and inclusion into the model some important processes, which were ignored before. Simplified version of the collisional radiative model, which is convenient for practical application, is considered in the paper. Implementation of the improved diagnostic method for measurements of electron temperature and ion number density distribution in the very near field of D-55 thruster plume is discussed.
