The Science and Technology Facilities Council has made available its Operational Strategy for Science, Technology & Facilities, along with the approach to Economic Impact and Education & Skills Training, and seeks input from the community.
International Year of Astronomy 2009 could be a springboard for all sorts of lasting achievements - not least wider appreciation of the value of dark skies. A first step could be the establishment of a Dark Skies Park in Europe.
The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures has published its updated roadmap for the next 10-20 years, highlighting major international projects.
The recent discovery of a planet in the Fomelhaut system (Kalas et al. 2008) was notable in part because the existence of such a planet had been predicted in 2006 by Alice Quillen, a University of Rochester astrophysicist, in Monthly Notices of the RAS - but not cited in the discovery paper.
