Instability in the behavior of atmospheric pressure after earth's entry into a solar corpuscular stream is investigated on the basis of daily charts of ground-level atmospheric pressure in the Northern Hemisphere for the period from 1880 to 1974. The dispersion in diurnal pressure differences computed at one latitude or averaged over several latitudes is used as the parameter that characterizes atmospheric instability. The method of superimposed epochs is applied, times corresponding to the first day of strong geomagnetic disturbances are employed as reference times, and sporadic (flare-associated) and recurrent disturbances are analyzed separately. The results obtained show that solar corpuscular streams have a highly significant effect on the stability properties of earth's atmosphere.
