From an analysis of the structure of various magnetohydrodynamic shocks, it follows that in the fronts of these shocks a current instability can develop. Due to absorption of the energy of the plasma waves excited by the instability, streams of energetic electrons are produced in front of and behind the shock front. Langmuir waves, excited by these streams, are transformed into type II solar radio emission by the inhomogeneity of the shock front. The effect of splitting of the type II radio emission is explained on the basis of the magnetohydrodynamic effect of shock-wave splitting.
