The size of the region of the main energy release of black hole accretion disks is considered. This problem is deeply connected with accretion processes at the innermost region of accretion disk and with boundary conditions at its inner edge. It is demonstrated that the region of the main energy release is strongly localized. It is shown that for accretion onto nonrotating black holes the main portion of the liberated energy is released within a rather narrow radial range of 5 to 13 M. This property can have profound effects on spectrum and variability of the radiation of the accretion disk as a whole. In particular, the asymmetry of the main energy release region is favorable for the mechanism of the millisecond variability.
