Specially situated ellipsoidal mass distributions are defined, along with spherical and Newtonian distributions and the special cases of homogeneous, Gaussian, and 'exponential' ellipsoids. The gravitational potential attributed to a given density function is analyzed. The potential energy, the interaction energy, and the latter's 'tensor moments' are defined and calculated. The interaction energy of two Gaussians is evaluated, and the case of two homogeneous spheroids with coinciding axes of symmetry is considered.
