A numerical method for investigating the orbital evolution of resonant asteroids over long periods of time is described. Fast varibles are excluded by using two successive algorithms for the averaging of the disturbing function and the right parts of the differential equations in osculating elements. Numerical integration of the averaged equations is used for successive averaging over the period of change of the semimajor axis of the asteroid orbit. It is shown that this approach can determine the orbital characteristics over time periods up to 100,000 years. Results are presented for asteroids with highly elliptical orbits with large inclinations to the ecliptic plane.
