First-order and second-order derivatives are used in the development of the appropriate condition equations in order to improve the convergence of the determination of the orbital elements of visual binaries. A critique of the power-series methods is considered. To improve the accuracy of the orbit used as first approximation, the Kowalsky-Seeliger algorithm (Heintz, 1971) is modified.
