The state of meridian observations of the DS (double stars) program is reported. The program contains close double stars whose precise positions can be determined by the visual method only. In some declination zones these stars have been observed at a few observatories of the USSR and in Strasbourg, Santiago de Chile and Beograd. The importance of further DS observations, particularly in the southern sky, is stressed.
