A theorem is proved which shows how the metric in an n-dimensional (pseudo) Riemannian space of arbitrary signature can be written in a reduced form when it admits a non-null CKV whose bivector does not necessarily vanish. This theorem is a generalization of a previous result quoted by Petrov. As an application it is shown that the FRW model can be deduced from conformal symmetry assumptions only.
