The scattering of light by small particles crosses the boundaries of many disciplines, from biomedical sciences to astrophysics. This conference represents an attempt to bring together people from different scientific communities, that seldom talk to each other. The conference Light, Dust and Chemical Evolution was organized by the research group on Electromagnetic Scattering of the University of Messina, Italy, and held in Gerace, a small historical town overlooking the Ionian Sea, located near Reggio Calabria within the National Park of Aspromonte. It was attended by about 50 scientists from many different countries, working in aeronomy, astrochemistry, solid state astrophysics, computer science and electromagnetic scattering.
