The effects of using monthly means in the analysis of long term changes of cosmic ray intensity are examined. It is shown that these can have considerable pollution from Forbush decrease effects. In particular, a use of maximum daily mean in a month, instead of the monthly mean, seems to reduce the width of the hysteresis loops, thereby implying reduced dimensions of the modulating region for galactic cosmic ray intensity.
