This chapter gives a brief overview of the major observational advances
in our quantitative knowledge of the intrinsic magnetic fields of the 8
planets, except Earth, from Mercury to Neptune, since “The Space
Age” began on 4 October 1957 with the USSR launching of the
world’s first artificial satellite SPUTNIK I.
