Design principles and details of a variable-aperture (zoom) Schmidt telescope intended for both visual observation and photographic observation and recording are presented. Dimensions, fabrication details, and function are discussed for the: mirror, corrector plate, telescope optics, corrector plate adjustments, and glass optics. A separate section deals with the design of a Wright telescope, or 'short Schmidt'. Close attention is given to polishing and finishing, and the shape of the polishing tool.
