An examination is conducted concerning the growth aspects of the artificially stimulated VLF emissions considered by Helliwell and Katsufrakis (1974) and Stiles and Helliwell (1975). A description is presented of a method of quantitative spectrum analysis. The described method is applied to several individual events which are fairly representative of the hundreds that have been examined. Each example illustrates one or more important features of the growth process. It is found that signals may grow exponentially with time at rates ranging from 25 to 250 dB/sec.
