The validity of comparisons of meteorite and asteroidal spectra depends upon the extent to which terrestrial weathering has altered meteorite spectral behavior. A method is demonstrated for determining the extent to which chondrites have weathered, and it is shown that most are slightly weathered despite careful preservation subsequent to the date of their fall. Spectra are presented of the least-weathered chondrite samples in each class.
