The paper presents a three-dimensional model of the thermospheric tidal structure for equinox conditions. The model is based on a synthesis of diurnal and semidiurnal components excited in situ and propagating upwards from the mesosphere and from below the mesosphere. Linearized tidal equations for a spherical, rotating atmosphere with anisotropic ion drag are used to determine individual tidal structures. The model is applied to the prediction of variations in thermospheric tidal structures with height, latitude, local time, and solar cycle. Future models will also include seasonal effects and the zonally-averaged contribution to the total thermospheric structure.
