We are developing a neutron spectrometer (NS) that can make measurements
of near-surface (<1 m) water and/or hydrated minerals from a rover on
Mars. Using neutron transport models, we find that attaching a NS to a
rover does not substantially degrade its ability to detect near-surface
water.
