It is shown that the revised photochemical theory for O(2+) in the earth's ionosphere, where double photoionization of O is the dominant source, is consistent with recent O(2+) measurements on Venus. A rate coefficient of 1.5 x 10 to the -10th cu m/sec for O(2+) + O is obtained, and the possible importance of O(2+) chemistry on minor atomic ions and airglow emissions is explored.
