Sinuous ridges, 270 km long and 200 m high, cross the Hesperian lavas
above Echus Chasma. The eastern edge of Echus Plateau is bounded by
glacial outwash extending along the edge of Echus Chasma. The presence
of volcanic and glacial structures indicates a subglacial volcanic
origin for the ridges.
