An analysis is presented of factors responsible for variations of C-14 in the earth's atmosphere. Consideration is given to the relationship between various solar activity indices and the rate of formation of C-14 for various solar cycles as well as for long periods (e.g., the Maunder minimum). It is shown that 11-year, secular, and longer variations of C-14 activity in the earth's atmosphere are determined by solar activity. Attention is also given to the effect of geomagnetic field strength on variations of C-14 during extremum periods of solar activity.
