Consideration is given to the thermonuclear reactions occurring in the plasmas of stellar interiors. Reaction pathways for stellar hydrogen and helium burning are examined, together with the eventual fates of the C-12 and O-16 produced in helium burning, and the stages of stellar evolution and interior conditions in which the various reactions may occur are discussed. Effects of degeneracy and of neutrino emission in the later stages of nuclear emission are also discussed. The nuclear reactions occurring in stellar explosions are then examined, with consideration given to those caused by the onset of nuclear reactions in a degenerate gas, the final stages of stellar nuclear evolution, and a decreased effectiveness of the usual thermostat mechanism, possibly involving the presence of a close stellar companion. Computational difficulties in following the evolution of an exploding star, which complicate attempts to determine the end products of stellar evolution and the mixtures of chemical elements produced, are noted.
