Ccd Photometry: Data Processing

Scientific paper

The general features of the PAWSPHOT reduction package are presented and discussed. The CCD photometric reduction package was specifically developed by the author as an analysis tool to produce accurate and precise stellar luminosity functions from CCD observations of crowded stellar fields in nearby Local Group galaxies. Accurate CCD stellar photometry is obtained by using the Marquardt method of nonlinear least squares fitting with the Moffat function as the model Point Spread Function. The fitting algorithm has been demonstrated to produce accurate photometry of severely undersampled stellar images - down to a stellar image FWHM of just 1 pixel - and is well suited for use with future CCD observations from the Hubble Space Telescope.
