Post-bombardment periods of increased impact flux on Earth are probably
due to the decay of captured Apollo object group orbits. The origin of
the Messier binary impact structure on the Moon implies the breakup of a
single impactor as the origin of a Cretaceous/Tertiary multiple impact.
