We calculate the scalar propagator in a constant background field for a
general theory with noncanonical kinetic energy. As an illustrative
application, we calculate finite-temperature corrections for the
nonlinear σ model. We discuss the application of our results to
finite-temperature potentials in locally supersymmetric theories.
