The apparent brightnesses of Titan and Neptune near 4718 and 5508 A have changed up to 10% since 1972. The implied reason for intrinsic albedo changes is the variation from an externally driven alteration in the atmospheric chemistry; this alteration could be due to solar emissions in the UV/EUV or the infrared. It was found that the traditional solar indices do not directly measure the causative process, since they lag the brightness variations in phase. It is proposed that the solar EUV and characteristics of the solar wind correlate with the brightness variations and lead to albedo changes; however, little is known of the observable brightness variations and the atmospheric chemistry of Titan and Neptune to make a definitive conclusion.
