A model for the production of the Jovian ring is proposed. The `visible' ring particles are micron-sized and produced by erosive collisions between an assumed population of km-sized parent bodies and sub-micron sized magnetospheric dust particles. These small dust particles are ejected by volcanoes from Io. The observed topology of the ring is described quite well with the theory, and properties of the parent bodies are deduced.
